It reflects new beginnings, a general trend towards healthier, greener solutions to diet, social life and environmental issues. A positive and feel good colour.

Browse the site for ready made colour palettes at Pantone. Great tool for looking at whats on trend now and helping to predict the following colour trends. This light green shade is an easy move on from the autumnal transitional khakis and  greener browns that have so dominated fashion the past year or two.

Using the Greenery colour all over really gives a fresh feel to the colour block trend going on in footwear and accessories right now. Adding a tan highlight for spring summer and brown or black for autumn winter keep … Read More »

The enduring appeal of the legendary Adidas Stan Smith

10th February

The Stan Smith tennis shoe is capitalising on the refreshing green wave, with it’s forest coloured detailing it is seeing new levels of popularity for 2016 which will continue into 2017 and on… Being a year on year success and as big as ever it has sparked a surge of imitations. These look a likes often come with an obvious reference to the forefather of this lace to toe.

It’s original form was launched in 1963 but with a name change and tweaked – reborn as the ” Adidas Stan Smith” in 1971. Now a staple with a heritage enjoyed by few equals in footwear. It entered the Guiness book of world records in 1988 after selling more than 22 million pairs. This being just one of the many mile stones set by the unassuming tennis shoe.

To show just how widely accepted … Read More »

An Original Penguin AW15/16

28th September

Continuing the success from the previous Spring Summer season we designed and developed the styles hand in hand with the footwear head office. This season has an outdoors theme, getting back to nature, making the most of the Autumnal colours. Working from the brief we created a trendy, stylish and quality range of shoes for Autumn Winter 15/16.

Well received by the bloggers and the customers it was an awesome range to have input on. Creasy, a long wingtip boot featured heavily in the range, supple grained leather with zig zag edges, burnished and brogued on the toe with a crepe outsole. Described on the website as “of the utmost quality as you would expect with anything that bears the Original Penguin name”

The crepe outsole really made this group stand out, on trend and gives a real premium look alongside the … Read More »

SS14 Footwear trend – Espadrille It

11th April

The classic A-line construction espadrille has been going strong for a good few years, a staple in any fashion conscious individuals wardrobe or just an easy going item for the beach and house lounging. SS14 is no exception with the espadrille being seen in more variations than ever before in mens, womens and childrens footwear. It is not the most exciting bit of footwear but it is never the less a big trend for the season, following through no doubt to 2015. Make the most of its cheap price point and consider pushing it up a little with some additional features.

Updating it for Spring Summer 2014 with hybrid versions of the espadrille is an interesting way to ride the trend and push it forward. If you have a successfully selling lightweight (canvas or textile based upper), simple construction style (plimsoll or … Read More »

If you followed my blogs or the Pantone Colour Team’s, you will know that Tangerine Tango was the colour of 2012. Adorned by great styles, including Gourmet’s Tredici hybrid sneaker hiker and Supra’s Skytop in there Camo pack (read the blog here). This year Pantone have predicted Emerald 17-5641 to be the must have colour in any range! Described as “Lively. Radiant. Feit shoes – Outstanding in so many ways

30th December

If you don’t know anything about Feit the first thing to know is that this small company run by 2 brothers, Tull and Josh Price, produces with their Feit team, hand made shoes at there own small factory. Made with literally the best materials that have been sourced from some of the best tanneries in the world. These shoes are hand stitched and (depending on the design) signed off on the tongue label with the shoe makers name. Those little touches make all the difference. To learn more about some of their techniques take a look at this article from Hypebeast.

This is a unique brand with a unique take on footwear. There most modern designs are my favourite (look at their early work and then the latest, clear distinction in style). Using all sorts of materials … Read More »

Heirloom Collection from Fleming & Howland

22nd September

Hardly anyone knows about a long established, highly reputable and luxurious British company called Fleming & Howland, but everyone will know about the furniture company that incorporated them into their brand, Chesterfield. Chesterfield has the reputation of being the best classic furniture for a long time and rightly so. You may not love the Chesterfield furniture as a sofa to sit on in your front room, or even as a stool in your bedroom, but none the less, you will recognise the sheer quality and craftsmanship that this product is ingrained with. And just for the record, I would love a Chesterfield sofa/chair/stool and anything else available!

Fleming & Howland began in 1780. Using high-grade skins and golden rivets that have long been their recognizable trade mark. A shoemaker and attendee at Cordwainer’s, Solomon Howland left the footwear business behind and … Read More »

Kinetic Rain – Changi Airport Singapore

12th July

At Changi Singapore Airport departure-check-in hall of Terminal 1, sits a beautiful piece of moving art. During refurbishment at the airport, ART+COM was commissioned to create a signature installation. The result of this is Kinetic Rain.

“The sculpture aims to be a source of identity for its location, and provides a moment for passengers to contemplate and reflect despite the busy travelling atmosphere.”

Composed of 2 parts, each consists of 608 rain droplets made of lightweight aluminium covered with copper. Dangling from thin, almost invisible steel wires above the 2 opposing escalators creates a sense of organised chaos. Watch each drop move, precisely and deliberately by a computerised motor hidden in the ceiling. The sequence of “droplets” movement covers a 15 minute choreography “here the two parts move together in unison, sometimes mirroring, sometimes complementing, … Read More »

Yuketen Spring / Summer 12 Collection

6th June

Yuketen is classic made in the USA, both footwear and luggage. Established in 1985, designer Yuki Matsuda uses American fine quality craftsmanship to create footwear inspired by the artisans he has met during his travels. Utilising these skills he crosses contemporary silhouettes and materials with traditional crafting. A proud and rich brand that produces beautiful shoes.

High grade leathers with a modern finish, this SS12 collection is looking great. In the range you can see snakeskin leathers with an almost sand camouflage effect, zig zag leather raw edges and brogue style punching, laced styles finished off with a square strip of leather to tie up your shoes.

The stunning contrasts in the classic styling – a welted outsole offset by the modern take on materials. It has a very unique and bold look that … Read More »
